The state announced it plans to expand a pilot program focused on helping foster kids in school. FosterEd:Indiana, which first launched as a privately funded pilot program in Marion County, will be implemented statewide. Soon, it will be helping Howard County’s 120 children in foster care.

While some people were home working in the yard or gardens, a group of volunteers rolled up their sleeves Saturday to bring a little beauty to downtown Kokomo. “I just love flowers,” said Suzanne Peters, as she swept up the walkway in the alley east of the courthouse called the Alleyscape.

Hiring at Kokomo’s largest employers appears to be creating other jobs in the area, according to an economic development leader. An estimated 458 Howard County residents found work in April, according to a monthly report the Indiana Department of Workforce Development released Friday.
Howard County hospital acquisition clears another hurdle

The planned acquisition of Howard County Regional Health System by the Indianapolis-based Community Health Network cleared another hurdle Tuesday, when the Indiana Finance Authority OK’d the transfer of the Howard County hospital’s debt obligations to Community Health.

Howard Regional Health System is a step closer to become an affiliate of Community Health Network. The Howard Regional Board of Trustees passed Tuesday resolutions approving the affiliation. Approval for the affiliation has to be approved by the Howard County commissioners and council.
